Marital Status: Married

After filling out forms all my life, when that simple question "Marital Status?" popped up I, without even thinking much, checked the "single" box. This week, when I was filling out the Jury desqualification form I paid attention to that question and actually thought about it to answer. It's like when the year changes and you have to write a check during the month of January. What do you automatically do? Most of us would write the previous year because we're so used to it...When i had to mark the "married" box, it felt weird...in a good way, of course. But weird. Then there's the other box that says Ms, Mr, Mrs. From now on I will receive letters that contain a different last name on it. Ms Marilia Picerni becomes Mrs Marilia Hirano. Dude, I've been writing my name since I was four. Now, there a whole new name for me to sign...now I will have 5 names! Marilia Yuri Miura Picerni Hirano. Will I be lazy to sign my name or what? One more situation that proves that women suffer way more than men. I will have to get a new social security, a new passport, new ID, new Driver's license, while he is just going to sit there and write the same name he's used to, use the same documents, and keep checking the box "mr" on his forms. Maybe that's because women are more capable of learning and dealing with new stuff. Women have to deal with Periods, PMS, Pregnancy, Breast Feeding, Learning how to scrub toilets (well, I haven't, and do not intend to learn), and now this: dealing with a new name and a whole new way of filling out forms.
When I first said I was getting married people gave me all kinds of advices about patience and love and understanding each other, but nobody told me that I'd have to go through all this hasstle. That's why I'm letting all my super Sex and the City girl friends know the trouble this can cause in your lives. Another advice: keep it simple when naming your daughter. That way she' won't have to annoy the clerks and receptionists all the time after getting married!!!
PS: I will write about my Wedding, don't worry! It's just that this particular issue made me inspired.
NJ, here I go!
Love you all!

Aqui não Brasil não é mais obrigatório a mulher aderir ao sobrenome do homem, não sei por aí como é. Mas acho que nunca mudarei o meu...ainda mais depois de ler esse post!
